Vilfredo Pareto Pareto was an economist and sociologist of Italian origin, born in Paris (1848-1923), who taught at the University of Lausanne, as well as previously did his mentor, Léon Walras . They both were part of the Lausanne School , which is considered, along with the Austrian School , as the birthplace of marginalism and neoclassical economics .

Vilfredo Pareto, a renowned Italian economist and sociologist, was born on July 15, 1848, in Paris, France. His father, Raphael Pareto, was a devout follower of Mazzini, and had been exiled from Genoa in 1836 for his political affiliations. Vilfredo Federico Damaso Pareto was born in Paris in 1848. [4] He was of mixed Italian-French ancestry, the only son of the Marquis Raffaele Pareto, an Italian exiled from his native Genoa because of his political views, and Marie Mattenier. The Pareto Principle The Pareto Principle was propounded by Vilfredo Pareto (1848-1923) when he observed that 20 percent of the people of Italy owned 80 percent of the wealth. This concept of disproportion often holds in many areas. The exact values of 20 and 80 are not significant; they could actually be 10 percent and 60 percent.
